A very funky, soulful, urban sound that will evoke images of late night lounges in the hippest part of the city. "How Ya Like Me Now" brings on some retro styles and showcases Matt's signature lead sound. Carl Burnett adds his magic touch on production (Larry Carlton, Boney James, etc). Seduction, I Will Be With You, Gas Lamp Groove, Family Funktion all deliver a very chilled out smooth experience that blends R&B and Smooth Jazz. There is also the pleasant surprise "Great Soul." A very unique track that delivers a mix of jazz, hip hop, and Bollywood Indian grooves (produced by Chris Marshak) The guitar style on this tune is reminiscent of John Mayer. There is the emotional "Gratitude" that brings an unforgettable melody. Don't forget about the very funky Uptown that features funkmaster Kenny Harris on bass.

As the work of DJ Spooky and other turntablists indicates, there's a seemingly limitless supply of rare and obscure deep funk grooves out there. However, attempts to replicate the sound have mostly been botched by inappropriate use of "updated" instruments and technology, creating a mutant half-breed that never quite works. Not so with the debut album by Brooklyn's el Michels Affair. Led by organist/drummer Leon Michels, this instrumental group has created a near-perfect simulacrum of late-'60s/early-'70s deep funk, jazz-funk, and soul-jazz, right down to the dub-like lo-fi quality of the sound, as if it were recorded quickly in a cheap studio. If that were all Sounding out the City was, however, it would be an impressive technical achievement but not a particularly interesting album. As it happens, however, Michels and crew have created an album that has as much melodic content (check out the simply gorgeous ballad "Behind the Blue Curtains") and soul as any of the albums it's an homage to. Leading off with the group's prized 2002 debut single "Detroit Twice," Sounding out the City is a canny blend of hard funk and gentler tunes like the Latin-influenced "This Song's for You." All 11 songs (ending with an excellent cover of Isaac Hayes' "Hung Up on My Baby") are between two and four minutes long, which avoids the unfortunate tendency some similar bands have to run a good groove into the ground through static repetition. That's what the repeat button is for, folks, and it should get quite a workout on this hugely enjoyable album.

Bonjour Mes Amis , je crois bien que je tiens encore un album génial !! Son titre est " Soulacoaster " et il est l'oeuvre de Soulpersona aka Soul P ! Alors je vous vois venir : c'est qui ce gars-là ??? Ce dénommé Soulpersona est une sacrée surprise qui nous vient d'Angleterre et plus précisément de Londres ! Ce garçon qui est musicien & producteur , est Gallois et est né à Cardiff . Il se fait tout d'abord connaitre pour sa faculté à dégoter du rare groove de très bonne qualité dans les bons bacs londoniens et surtout pour son oreille musicale . Ensuite s'essayant à la production , des gens comme Oliver Cheatham ( dont il a été un assistant ) & Jocelyn Brown font appel à lui . Il produit des sons pour certains des invités de son album également ( Replife , Deborah etc ..) . En plus , il lui arrive de produire des excellents tracks soulful pour des labels house ! Mais il revient pour cet album à sa passion n°1 : la soul , la funk & le rare groove , ses premiers amours pour notre bonheur à nous , croyez moi !!!!! Encensé par ses pairs : Bluey ( Incognito ) , Reel People , Patti Austin , Leon Ware , RAMP( Roy Ayers .... ) , le label Motown ne tarissent pas d'éloges sur lui ! Et le moins qu'on puisse dire , c'est que cet album , qui le reflète magnifiquement dit il , est une pure réussite ==> il n'y a pas un seul mauvais track ( lol je suis sérieux , 15 tracks parfaits ) ! A mi chemin entre du Eric Lau , du Liquid Spirits & du Incognito , du rare grooves & de la Brit Soul , cet album est so so so so groovy ! Je vais avouer mon manque de culture : je ne le connaissais pas du tout mais vous verrez , à l'écoute de son album , vous voudrez en savoir plus sur lui : Obligé !! Mélangeant subtilement la soul , la funk , le rare groove , la soulful et le hip hop cet album est un pur appel à la vraie musique ! Bref , encore une excellente surprise venue d'outre - manche ! La seule photo que j'ai trouvé de lui , c'est celle postée au début du topic , il cultive un sacré mystère ( j'espère que c'est bien lui sur la photo lol ) Bon j'en ai trouvé d'autres depuis et maintenant je suis sur de moi , il s'agit des véritables phots de l'artiste !! Il s'est accompagné pour cet opus de musiciens ( voir plus bas détail ) : écoutez la richesse musicale de cet album ! Je ne vous parle même pas de ses invités qui , exceptés Darien ( dont j'ai déjà parlé sur Juslisen et ici sur mon blog ), Deborah Jordan & Replife , les autres ne sont pas très connus ( enfin du moins chez nous ) mais sont très très talentueux ! Sur le site Digisoul ( lien ci dessous ) , vous pouvez mieux les découvrir ! Soutenez cet album et cet artiste : achetez le , c'est un investissement :)Encore un superbe album !!!!

The Soultwisters are a four piece instrumental boogaloo band out of Finland, playing a groovy mix of soul, funk, blues and jazzy flavoured party music that can be danced to. The group is lead by an incredible sax player Panu ”Saxman” Syrjanen, Luumu Kaikkonen on guitars, Mikko Vuorela on bass and Leevi Leppanen on drums and percussion. The musicians of The Soultwisters are all well known in the Finnish music scene as both live and studio players. The Soultwisters started playing live together in 2005 in the Helsinki club scene.
