Le nom de Kwoe-wa ne vous évoque peut-être rien et pourtant ces derniers creusent leur petit sillon entre électro-dub, world et trip-hop depuis bientôt 6 ans. Leur route aura d'ailleurs croisé, sur cette période, des artistes chers à trip-hop.net tels qu'Orange blossom, Brain damage ou encore Kaly live dub. Jolie carte de visite, quand même.
Et cet album - EP Live ? - ne déçoit pas même s'il s'avère un peu court avec ses 5 " petites " pistes seulement. Il n'empêche qu'on ne boude pas son plaisir : les mélodies sont efficaces, les arrangements bass'n dub complètent la jolie voix tout en suavité de Julie Fallu avec beaucoup de justesse et sans monotonie.
Les tonalités rock de Warp révèleront au fil des écoutes de petites subtilités sonores dans les arrangements. Le plaisir grandit encore à l'apparition d'un sitar qui - ma foi - déchire vraiment ! (j'adore) La reprise de Venus in furs (Velvet underground déjà remise au goût du jour en 2005 sur le fnal du désespéré Last days de Gus Van Sant) est très réussie, étrangement plus rapide et presqu'enjouée... Mais, pourquoi pas ! High to down s'écoute ensuite assez tranquillement avec un final au sitar qui apporte juste ce qu'il faut de complexité avant la jolie montée tout en basse de Fucking unplugged et un final très roots (They say)...
Il y a quelque chose ici d'Orange blossom. Certes, moins dense, mais plus intime. Et si le tout manque un peu de matière, on y trouvera du savoir faire, ce qu'il faut d'originalité (merci le sitar), d'exotisme et de charme. Et c'est bien ça, le charme.

Four young musicians are behind the odd-sounding name “Bin-Jip”. Although their existence and their working together has been an open secret for some time, the band was not in a hurry to go officially public. They have been working for more than a year perfecting their tunes, which can be described as more eclectic, modern and experimenting than their previous projects. Albeit being eclectic, their show is absolutely song-centric. Bin-Jip is a very democratic community, where the musicians are almost peers in writing, arranging the songs and being producers of the project. They not only contribute with their own instruments, but they shape the songs’ structure, sounds and effects together. After a year of work they have recorded a whole album’s worth of exciting music. The name “Bin-Jip” comes from the Korean motion picture, which is a well-liked movie of the members. But beyond that, the name was chosen because in the movie the story took place mainly indoors, just like the band, which existed only in Andrew J’s living-room up until now. That is where the songs were written and the musicians became a band.

Sortie : 2010Réunis en studio pour réaliser la musique du très recommandable film Adem (Oxygène)sorti voici quelques semaines, l'ex-Hooverphonic Geike Arnaert et le musicien hollandais Eric de Jong ont profité de cette bouffée d'air frais pour ne pas trop vite lancer le générique de fin de cette collaboration.
Sur ce premier album, la sirène passe du murmure sensuel au miaulement enragé pour mettre en valeur des mélodies aussi dépouillées qu'efficaces, loin des ambiances trip-hop de Hooverphonic. - F.V.
