A rare funky soul classic! This one was originally issued on Brunswick in 1974, and the record's a great one – it's got a tight ensemble funky sound, mixed with some great soulful vocals, and a strong indie soul groove.

The band originally came from North Carolina, and they've got a style that's similar to some of the other south coast funk groups that were operating in the 70s in cities like Washington, Richmond, and other points south. Most tracks have deep soulful vocals, but there's some very nice instrumentals too, and the band's got a pretty tight approach to playing. Titles include "Rump Bump", "Loose Hips", "Get Satisfied (parts 1 & 2)", "Loving Explosion", "Give It Up", and "Blood Donors Needed".

    Tracklist :
       1. Get Satisfied
       2. Love Your Woman
       3. Give It Up
       4. Try Try Try

The third album by Syreeta, that time backed by Leon Ware on the Tamla imprint, including the participation of Gary Bartz on a couple of tracks. Quoting Dusty Groove, as often, this is 'beautiful spacey soul from Syreeta -- and proof that she was one of Motown's great lost talents of the 70s! Leon Ware did the production, and Syreeta's high Minnie Riperton-esque voice is backed by a smooth set of mellow grooves with lots of cool electronic bits and weird moogy parts that remind us of Ware's own "Musical Massage" LP.

The whole thing's a wonderful blend of spacey soul -- and we rank it right up there with the best work by Ware, Riperton, and some of our other 70s mellow soul favorites. Tracks include "I Don't Know", "Rest Yourself", "One To One", and my personal fave "Tiki Tiki Donga".

    Beautiful cover art, too!

70s action film-styled funk from the Italian scene from Signor Wolf - one that certainly lives up the experience promised by the title! The Signor Wolf approach is much more styled after the pulpy funk era soundtracks of the 70s than many of the JBs-born funk revival projects out there today - with tight, freaky guitars, persistently rollicking beats and spunky bass, organ, vibes and some subtle programmed elements.
