Accrochez-vous, la tornade Balkan Beat Box est de retour ! Après Nu Med et les remixes de Nu Made, Ori Kaplan, Tomer Yosef et Tamir Muskat ouvrent un nouveau chapitre des musiques du monde 2.0. avec ce troisième disque, enregistré à Belgrade et Vienne.

Le gang new yorkais a aiguisé son rock contestataire en Europe, puis mixé les saveurs de ses voyages en Israël. Ainsi Blue Eyed Black Boy, disque de contraste, fait autant appel aux vibrations reggae d’un Max Romeo qu’au rythme d’une marche de carnaval, à la chaleur d’un dancefloor electro qu'à l’énergie brute d’un concert de rock. De nouveaux horizons avec les Balkans en toile de fond, voilà l’équation de ce disque diablement festif et politique.

A long time fan of Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, DJ Logic, the turntablist and producer, has taken five tracks from the band's acclaimed 2010 release Rise & Shine and reworked the original session files into a set of funky, dubbed out remixes. The album Rise & Shine Remixes is available direct from the Refugee All Stars at shows on their Positive Revolution Tour - now in progress, playing U.S. dates across the West Coast and Northeast in May 2011. The Remixes are also available on their bandcamp site here, and will be released on iTunes and Amazon in the coming weeks. For a sample, check out "Muloma Remix" free here.

DJ Logic says of the project, "The ability of music to transcend borders and cultures is one of its most powerful characteristics. Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars have literally survived through their struggles because of this, and I am honored to be part of this great remix." As the founder of Project Logic and a frequent collaborator with artists including Medeski Martin & Wood, Vernon Reid, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Christian McBride and Carley Simon amongst others, DJ Logic has established himself as the go to DJ for live band collaborations.

Deux ans après l'excellent "Con Furore", les deux compères d'Agent 5.1 (Cédric Guffens et Johanne Lovera) sont de retour avec un album qui ne décevra par leur fans. On y retrouve en effet les atmosphères oscillant entre jazz atmosphérique et musique de films du premier album, mais celles-ci sont dorénavant enrichies d'éléments acoustiques (trompette, flute, violon...) qui contribuent à donner à l'album plus de chaleur et d'authenticité.
S'ouvrant sur l'énergique "Boring things are very big" au rythme latino dont l'évolution en crescendo réussit parfaitement à donner envie d'en entendre plus, l'album propose un savant mélange de titres jazzys aux sonorités de génériques comme "Los Alamos Waltz","No Thanks" ou "Absence" et de titres plus trip-hop comme "The Wrong Way" (qui fait immanquablement penser à Portishead), "License", "The Visit", "Volcano" ou "Telephone Call" sur lesquels la voix de Johanne fait merveille. On notera particulièrement la puissance du titre "A better Light", alternance risquée mais réussie de passages très calmes et survoltés, sur lequel la voix saturée de Johanne rappelle celle de Kate Bush; ainsi que l'amusant instrumental "Sick Again" dont les accents funkys évoquent les feuilletons américains des années 70s.
Un bien bel opus en tous cas, dont on ne peut que se lamenter qu'il ne soit pas (encore?) disponible en France.
