The Daktaris fut fondé par les producteurs Desco Phillipe Lehman & Gabriel Roth. Le reste de la formation vient d'anciens membres des The Soul Providers & du futur groupe Antibalas. Seul album des Daktaris : Soul Explosion est sorti une année après la mort de Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Rendant hommage au maître, on y trouve une reprise de Fela Kuti « Upside Down » & une de James Brown « Give it up turnit loose ». On est donc loin d'une originalité débridée, plutôt d'un hommage classique & court (4 mn en moyenne) à Fela, dommage.

Only album Daktari: Soul Explosion was released a year after the death of Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Paying tribute to the master, there is a resumption of Fela Kuti "Upside Down" and one of James Brown "Give it up Turn Loose". It is therefore far from an unbridled originality, rather a tribute classic & short (4 minutes on average) to Fela, too bad.
