A very funky, soulful, urban sound that will evoke images of late night lounges in the hippest part of the city. "How Ya Like Me Now" brings on some retro styles and showcases Matt's signature lead sound. Carl Burnett adds his magic touch on production (Larry Carlton, Boney James, etc). Seduction, I Will Be With You, Gas Lamp Groove, Family Funktion all deliver a very chilled out smooth experience that blends R&B and Smooth Jazz. There is also the pleasant surprise "Great Soul." A very unique track that delivers a mix of jazz, hip hop, and Bollywood Indian grooves (produced by Chris Marshak) The guitar style on this tune is reminiscent of John Mayer. There is the emotional "Gratitude" that brings an unforgettable melody. Don't forget about the very funky Uptown that features funkmaster Kenny Harris on bass.

Everybody’s talking about the good ol’ days

    The Funky President

This album gives a rather consistent listen and is an introduction with some examples of the influences of psych and funk into Indian popular music mostly, or in combination in Indian music, most often this is with a Bollywood music relationship. They have compiled it well although I would have preferred not to have the already over-exposed sitar beat rock track from the German Klaus Doldinger here. They have also based themselves on other compilations and include a few tracks from these sources, just like on the previously reissued compilations from the label, which for a part sounds a bit lazy, but because of its fit well together character more easily forgiveable. Essential were of course the Simla Beat tracks, which were already to be found on the Normal records compilation (from which the Black Beats was very good indeed and the X'Lents instrumental is an essential piece of Indian psychedelia). A whole lecture on their psych-funk theme is included, although this is just a fragment of their own interests and it is not something of a real historical overview or something overly important for the Indian music itself which had even a lot more to cover. After the two Simla Beat tracks are a few interesting psych-beat and psych-funk contributions by Kayandji Anandji. R.D.Burmann received already some attention and compilations in music lover circles. There are a few important crossover mixes added. A nice find is Bappi Lahari's “Everybody dance with me”, an erotic dance pop song with the bass line of IB's “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”. Like the compilers say, the Usha Kanna's edited track is a good example of psych-funk, but also a bit short as an idea. Sapan Jagmohan's track sounds equally interesting. A last psych track is from Atomic Forest from the Obsession LP which I sadly missed, here with a very American heavy psych sound with a cover of a Deep Purple track. Outstandingly different is Hemant Bhosle (with Asha) with an interesting crossover of 60s psych with cosmo organ mixed with a more recent disco beat. The fact that you can find the front covers of the original albums makes this compilation also more interesting for your collection. The booklet is more like complete book.

    From Official Site :

Maybe the summer IS already on the way (hmmm...it's hard to tell in the UK), but what I'm really talking about is the Sugar Fix tour which is starting to take shape! We have dates all over Europe coming in from week to week, and most recently we've had offers of TV in Germany and France!

Things are getting very exciting and as we kick off to the start of this years gigs this weekend in Holland (Amsterdam, Apeldoorn & Hoofddorp), we would like to introduce you to a new addition to the live band. Lovely Miss Sanne is joining us on vocals! Helping animate and bring to life those songs on Sugar Fix that we love for their thickly coated vocals. So get along to see our new line up, we have plenty of dates to choose from! It's now less that 4 weeks until Sugar Fix will be released WORLD WIDE! We've been waiting and waiting patiently and we hope that you, our global buddies, will enjoy it! It will be available on iTunes and at Unique Records website, as well as many other stores...

The Netherlands were the first to hear and purchase the album a month ago and we've been receiving brilliant reviews! Although they are tricky for me to read, as my Dutch still doesn't permit me to talk about much other than ‘fork' or ‘cheese', I get the gist that the production and writing is well praised, the songs are regarded as strong and the album has a great mainstream appeal! Naturally, we are thrilled with this! We were album of the week on Radio 6 a couple of weeks ago and we are gaining attention daily it seems! Here are a couple of the online reviews we received so far: Soundslike.be or Nu.nl and last but not least on MusicMarauders (English).

But of course, we always want to know what you guys think of the album and single ‘Capsize'; you guys who come to see us perform and regularly pop up on our facebook, and twitter to say hi. If you haven't already heard the album, you can always ‘try before you buy' on Spotify (yep, that rhymed, I'm goooood).

As you can imagine, we are all buzzing with the reactions we are getting, but we still need and sincerely appreciate your support! Please take a look at our video for ‘Capsize' and should you find yourself getting wildly addicted to it, then please share the link and pass it on. To watch it click here! If you want to jump on board the next full and lively push for the world wide release, all you have to do is spread the word, yeah that's it! SPREAD THE WORD!! To those of you getting in touch from all other countries outside of Europe such as Japan, Australia, China and US, we'd love to come and play! A little bit of detective work and enthusiasm can go a long way, so get in touch and lets make it happen!!

We hope to see you all at a show soon! - Laura x
