Musetta - Mice to meet you
A hip Italian duo - one that mixes torchy vocals with mellow downtempo beats - but all at a level that's got a bit more depth and soul than most of their contemporaries! The lovely Marinella Mastrosimone handles vocals here - and she's got a breathy, raspy style that echoes jazz work of the 30s and 40s, but also manages to have a more contemporary, dark-sounding undercurrent. Instrumentation is from Matteo Curcio - who uses a fair bit of programming, but with acoustic elements at the core - in a way that further adds to the warmth of the session. There's a sound here that almost reminds us of the first sorts of experiments in this mode that came from England and Germany over a decade ago.
