Another sunny Monday in London (a rare occurence of late) but before I head out to London Fields for a boozy afternoon of fun and frolics, I thought I better give you a quick heads up on a little album that’s been released today. After just over two years since his debut 12″, the epic dancefloor tune, “You Will Save Me” arrived on the ever consistent Wah Wah 45s label, Scrimshire delivers his first album for the label entitled “Along Came The Devil One Night”, available from all good music stores now on both CD and MP3. Although it seems that its taken a bit of time for the album to see the light of day, personally I, and a few other people I know who’ve already heard it, believe that it’s definitely been worth the wait. Having delved into the LP over repeated listens during the past few weeks, I think Mr Adam Scrimshire has probably completed one of the first essential UK soul albums of 2009. That may be a bit of a grand statement for a Monday afternoon in May and especially from someone who has had the pleasure of knowing him for a year or two, but casting all that aside and just slipping “Along Came The Devil One Night” in your music player should at least confirm that you are indeed listening to something a little bit special. Clocking in at just over 43 minutes long and after numerous revisions, three previous vinyl releases (all holding exclusive non album cuts, versions and remixes – The King Knut remix of “Mistaken” being a personal highlight – go seek) and a host of live shows, Scrimshire delivers a succint album incorporating a range of styles from jazz to soul, folk to funk, and pulls it all together to produce a work of sheer cinematic brilliance. From the opening piano intro of “The Low Road” through the subsequent tracks “People We Spoke To” and the title track (probably the strongest three track opening that I’ve heard on an album recently), right through to closing track “I Have Come To You”, a melancholic duet with label mate Stac, everything fits together nicely, without any unnecessary skits or filler cuts. Just a solid nine tracks of soulful, uplifting, contemporary music. Scrimshire, who produces and plays a range of instruments on the album, is joined by a talented bunch of musicians and singers, including Jake Telford (OK_Ma) on sax and flute, vocals from Inga-Lil Aker, Rob Hynd, Claire Lauren (the voice on the standout jazz track “Springtime”) and Stac, plus guest strings from The Middlewood Sessions. Alexey Nikitin aka Nocow – electronic musician from St.-Petersburg. It is difficult to classify his music as a particular style, because he stay-on-a-way of experiment, never knowing where his music will take him next. It gives a notion about state of his mind and, sometimes, it falls you in pleasant thoughts. The artist’s first EP was released at the beginning of 2008 by “DedPop” internet label. At the same time he started to work as participant of “Wax Paper Cup”.

El Instituto Mexicano del Sonido es un proyecto de Camilo Lara, en el que algunas canciones clásicas de los años setenta y ochenta se mezclan con música electrónica, como por ejemplo la canción "Mirando a las Muchachas", de los Hermanos Castro. Las siglas de este proyecto se pronuncian i-eme-ese para no ser confundidas con las del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social. En el 2006 salió su primer disco llamado México Mágico bajo la disquera mexicana independiente Noiselab y, en España, por el sello madrileño Lovemonk. Éste contiene fragmentos de cumbias, de cha cha chas, estructuras pop a veces, mucha electrónica juguetona, mucho Esquivel, textos de Juan Rulfo recitados por el propio Rulfo, dub y muchas cosas más. Surgido de pedacitos de más de trescientas canciones de los años 20 hasta los 60, "este disco refleja el color y el bullicio de una ciudad tan imprevisible como es México DF".

Sus remezclas abarcan desde grupos como Placebo a Le Hammond Inferno, pasando por Gecko Turner o Babasónicos

En el 2007 salió su segundo álbum llamado Piñata, el sencillo que se desprende de este álbum se llama El Micrófono, según él, este álbum contiene mas ritmos que el disco anterior. La canción "El Micrófono" es parte de la banda sonora del videojuego FIFA 08, mientras que la canción "Alocatel" es parte de la banda sonora del FIFA 10.

En el 2009 lanza un tercer album llamado Soy Sauce con el sencillo "Hiedra Venenosa".

Hervé Poudoulec, aka Kira Neris, nous vient de Strasbourg et a déjà deux albums à son actif :

*A frozen second (2009) sur lequel nous nous arrêtons aujourd'hui
Débutant par l'excellentissimme Judy in June (qui restera pour moi une des chansons les plus entêtantes de 2009), A frozen second  se révéle être un formidable  "album léger dont on n'attend rien en particulier mais qui séduit énormément grâce à son très mature enchainement de compositions pop-(nu) jazzy pleines de rythme et d'ambiances classieuses, légères, délicates et fines".
Seul petit bémol, le dernier morceau, un peu moins subtil, Growing up.
En dépit de cette conclusion vaguement loupée, A frozen second  se révéle rapidement précieux et s'affirme, dans le genre, comme  un de ces disques indispensables de 2009 : un vrai disque d'été qui vous réchauffera en hiver et présente en plus la vertu de nous montrer qu'en France, il n'y a, heureusement, pas que de la nouvelle chanson à textes ...

Pour ce troisième album, Tommy Yamaha et Martin Kaisa, alias the Strike Boys, ont visiblement décidé de faire mûrir leurs sonorités habituelles. Playtime reprend donc les bases solides de leur deuxième album "Grapefruit flavoured green tea time" agrémentées de nombreuses collaborations artistiques qui ne sont pas le fruit du hasard. Le premier titre " Playtime theme ", est la signature authentique de ce troisième volet, d'où s'échappent les évolutions sonores. Une basse solide très funky-groove accompagnée d'une multitudes d'échantillonnages plus ou moins familiers, accouplés à des variations de signaux sonores. Seuls les cuivres manquent à l'appel. Les Strikes Boys exploitent habilement toutes les facettes de cette formule. La collaboration avec le danois EMO, issu de la grande famille Stereo Deluxe, donne des résultats très soul reggae dub, celle avec le jeune Mc Blaze des titres plus Breakbeat, ou bien même une ambiance plus soul dance avec une nouvelle collaboration d'Eddie Green, déjà présent lors de leur deuxième album. Certains reconnaîtront peut-être le titre " Cocaine is a skin " présent dans le cinquième volume Hôtel Costes. L'ensemble manque d'un peu d'innovation mais son côté entraînant vous charmera très certainement.
