    What Zedvantz has done here is take a selection of ragtime/dixie style jazz beat tracks and blended it into one blinding 30 minute mix. With a style of music such as this one I’d argue that its a VERY thin line between brilliance and twee drive. However Zedvantz negotiates that line with aplomb, delivering an exhilarating listen that can’t help but get you nodding your head, whilst drawing attention to a fairly small but brilliant line in obscure twists on a classic genre."

    Při mém posledním surfování po blozích jsem narazil na mixtape se zajímavě
    znějícím názvem Turntable Jazz, o který se postaral mně do té doby neznámý DJ ZedVantz z Toronta.

    Dílo Turntable Jazz zcela vystihuje jeho jméno. Jedná se o mixtape, který propojuje staré jazzové šlágry s hiphopovými groovy, jedná se o mixtape, kde DJ mluví rukama. ZedVantz namíchal Turntable Jazz již v loňském roce. Vzhledem k tomu, že jsem na českých webech
    neobjevil jedinou zmínku, která by se ho týkala, rozhodl jsem se, že ho nemůžu nezprostředkovat dál. Turntable Jazz je totiž především naprosto úžasný.

J'ai récemment découvert Healer Selecta  (aka Yvan Serrano-Fontova) en feuilletant au travail  Mojo Magazine qui le présente comme "un DJ international / musicien qui a rendu à Londres tout son swing".
Mojo étant l'une des dernières revues à laquelle je fais confiance les yeux (pratiquement) fermés, je n'avais pas besoin de plus d'arguments pour, le soir venu, taper les précieuses références sur Google et ainsi partir à la recherche du sacré Graal.
Et une fois de plus, Mojo avait raison.
Dès la première écoute de Let's get it started, j'ai été aspiré par son détonnant et cohérent mélange de soul, de funk, de guitare surf, d'afrobeat, de Rhythm & Blues, de samba, de reggae, ...
Les écoutes suivantes n'ont fait que confirmer la première impression.
En effet, après un morceau introductif, You are listen to, l'album se transforme en bombe, véritable explosion des sens. S'enchaînent alors trois morceaux de soul / funk de très bonne facture, Let's get started, Melting Pot et Twangy Batucada (et sa guitare surf), un morceau d'afrobeat jazzy à souhait Sweet Lil Thang Of Mine, ...

Bref, c'est la fête à tous les étages, un voyage musical transcendantal, que sais-je encore ...
Les genres et les époques s'effacent, s'entrechoquent, se confondent pour au final ne faire plus qu'un.
Un disque très tarantinien et russmayerien en somme  (voir la vidéo de Tura Stomp ^^) !
Tous les genres présentés sont en effet ici issus du passé mais sont traités de manière résolument moderne et  l'album parvient ainsi à s'imposer  comme une synthèse parfaite et naturelle du rythme fusion de ce début de 21ème siècle, remède parfait contre la morosité ambiante.

Je vais être honnête avec vous, je ne sais pas du tout comment vous présenter cet album. Je ne sais rien de l'artiste, son genre musical est généralement un genre que j'abhorre au plus haut point (je n'arrive que très rarement à la fin de l'écoute d'un disque complet), ... Je me contenterai donc du minimum syndical avec quelques points factuels. Originaire de Jérusalem, le musicien-producteur-DJ Markey Funk fait partie intégrante du paysage musicical funk / hip-hop / ambient israélien depuis 2003. Après des collaborations à d'innombrables projets et manifestations (il a entre autres travaillé avec les très intéressants The Apples), il a enfin pu produire, l'an dernier son 1er album en son nom. (Forgot The Word), même s'il n'est constitué que de chutes de travail de diverses sessions est d'une formidable cohérence et en tous points réussis. Dans un monde meilleur, personne ne parlerait d'Archive et tout le monde écouterait (Forgot The Word). Nous ne sommes malheureusement pas dans un monde meilleur ... Sur Internet, j'ai trouvé ce disque classé en "cut'n'paste" ... Je ne sais pas trop ce que ça signifie. Alors, oui, il y a du bidouillage de studio, c'est certain, des coupages, des collages. Ces quelques expérimentations n'empêchent pas l'ensemble de rester dans le domaine du trip hop-ambient facilement accessible et je le recommanderai à tous les déçus d' Archive depuis ... Londinium dont je fais partie. Comme expliqué en introduction, je n'apprécie donc normalement pas du tout ce genre de musique mais, dans ce cas prècis, (Forgot The Word) m'a amené une de mes plus belles surprises de fin 2009. Rien que pour cette curiosité, si vous en avez le temps, arrêtez-vous quelques minutes sur les titres présentés à l'écoute.

Stepping Stones is essentially a best-of and remix record in one. Taking songs from as far back as 1994's Strictly Turntablized, Krush collects and presents some of his best tracks — some reworked gently, others more drastically. Stepping Stones is split into two discs, lyricism and soundscapes — the concept behind each being decidedly self-explanatory. The first disc, lyricism, at once sounds the best; guests of this calibre — and in such density — are a rare occurrence: C.L. Smooth, Company Flow, Black Thought (alone on one, with Malik B on another), Aesop Rock, Mr. Lif, Anticon, and Mos Def. Throw in Japanese rappers, TWIGY & RINO, KAN — names in uppercase for esoteric Japanese reasons — and, finally, Esthero and, more excitingly, Zap Mama, and we're looking at just about the best collection of guests ever assembled on a hip hop/breaks record. The second disc, soundscapes, however, holds its own just as well against the first. This, really, should come as no surprise as DJ Krush has, on top of working with some of the DJ Shadow, DJ Disk, ?uestlove, and — albeit on a weaker track than the original — Kazufumi Kodama. There are five new tracks in total. Three of these are on the Soundscapes disc, one of which is a short intro. The other two (an original and its remix) are, obviously, on the first. You can purchase this record in most stores for twenty-five dollars, and you would be doing yourself a great disservice if you decided otherwise; Stepping Stones, serves as either a particularly clever way of recapping an exceptional career or as an excellent introduction to an excellent artist. Whichever way... if you are already a Krush fan and have heard most of these songs on the original records I can assure you that the new versions are well worth your money — if, on the other hand, you've never heard of Krush, buy this record, and when you've digested it, go out and buy the source material.
