Dirty Three est un trio de rock instrumental expérimental formé en 1992 à Melbourne.

Ils ont effectué des tournées en première partie de groupes emblématiques du rock indépendant comme Sonic Youth ou Pavement. Grâce au soutien de John Cale, le groupe a signé chez Touch and Go Records en 1995, label sur lequel ont été publiés bon nombre de ses enregistrements depuis lors.

Le coup d’essai de The Black Box Revelation avait un peu laissé sur sa faim. Surprise, le duo venu de Dilbeek revient au meilleur de sa forme avec un deuxième album, Silver Threats.

Ceux-là, on peut dire qu’ils étaient attendus au tournant. L’EP inaugural de Jan Paternoster et Dries Van Dijck avait attiré l’attention de la critique et surtout du public au point de leur permettre de faire paufiner leur premier album, Set Your Head On Fire, aux Etats-Unis par la paire Greg Gordon / Fred Kevorkian, deux des spécialistes locaux du garage-rock grand public. Avec un résultat plutôt décevant…

Mais nos amis rockeurs veulent conquérir le monde, et sont donc passé à la vitesse supérieure. Leur deuxième opus, enregistré dans les légendaires studios Konk, marque en conséquence un progrès notable, grâce notamment à des compositions plus élaborées.

C’est donc à un album de rock tout ce qu’il y a de plus classique mais d’une efficacité redoutable auquel nous avons affaire ici : les guitares sont grasses, la batterie cogne dur, les textes sentent bon la bière et le stupre. Le défaut des BBR est toujours le même, leurs influences se sentent trop. La formule duo garage-blues semble copiée sur les White Stripes ou les Black Keys, et en écoutant l’album on pense (trop) souvent à Kasabian, à BRMC, voire parfois à la famille Oasis / The Verve (pour le chant). Mais il faut bien avouer que certains morceaux sont très réussis, surtout vers la fin avec la séquence Our Town Has Changed Now, à la mélodie envoûtante, suivi d’un Love Licks et son riff de guitare bluesy, puis des bidouillages sonores de You Got Me On My Knees, pour finir enfin avec la belle ballade marécageuse Here Comes The Kick.

Au final, on peut quand même regretter que cet album soit si surproduit, un son aussi propre et clinquant convient bien mal à une musique aussi sauvage. Ceci continue de faire des Black Box Revolution un groupe plus pertinent sur scène que sur disque.

   This is a great Kings of Leon Concert DVD, and it ROCKS!!! It was filmed on June 30, 2009, at the "02 Colisium" in London, before a capacity crowd of 18,000 screaming fans. It consists of 22 songs, and has an approximate running time of 100 minutes. This band was featured in the Rolling Stone, a few months ago. Their picture was on the cover. These brothers and cousin - Nathan Followill, Caleb Followill, Jared Followill, & Matthew Followill, were raised in the Southern U.S.A., and currently live in the Nashville area.

This band is currently one of the "hotest" rock bands in the world, and this concert dvd certainly proves why!!! This band has a unique sound, that is all their own. I don't think any other band could duplicate their sound. This concert features some of their songs from the "Only by the Night" Album Cd, along with some of their classics. Plus this band, is one of the best bands to emerge within the current decade. It's an original band with all original songs.

Don't believe the review of this dvd in the current issue of the Rolling Stone (they gave it only a 2 star, and they really didn't know what they were talking about.) This band gives it's all in performing before this 18,000 fan capacity crowd. There are no mediocre performances. This band performs extremely well on each and every song. They knew this was being filmed for a dvd. Their lead man Caleb Followill has some excellent interaction with the crowd. Plus, the crowd is really into this concert.


All the songs on this dvd were written by the band members themselves. The Key Tracks include: Use Somebody, Sex on Fire, Notion, Molly's Chambers, On Call and the Bucket. All the other songs are very good also.

This is a GREAT CONCERT DVD, the filming, the sound, the audience are all GREAT, making this one GREAT Concert DVD!!! If you love Rock, you'll love this one. Thanks!!!!
